Upper & Lower Blepharoplasty for Brighter, More Rested Eyes
The eyes are often the first place people notice signs of aging. Drooping upper lids, under-eye bags, puffiness, and loose skin can make you look tired, aged, or less vibrant than you feel. At CFR Aesthetics in Chattanooga, TN, eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty or a lid lift, is designed to refresh the eyes while preserving a natural, balanced appearance.
Led by Dr. Rex Yannis, our surgical team customizes upper and lower eyelid lifts to your anatomy, concerns, and aesthetic goals for results that look refined, rested, and still beautifully like you.
Please note: Our practice focuses exclusively on cosmetic eyelid surgery and does not handle cases covered by insurance. Patients seeking blepharoplasty for functional or medical reasons may schedule a consultation with Dr. Yannis at Southeast Eye Specialists, where qualifying testing and treatment for insurance-covered cases are available.
What Is Eyelid Surgery?
Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a facial rejuvenation procedure that improves the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. The current CFR Aesthetics page describes upper and lower eyelid lifts as precise surgical procedures designed to remove excess skin, smooth fine wrinkles, and restore a refreshed, youthful appearance to the eyes.
Depending on your concerns, eyelid surgery may help improve heavy upper lids, under-eye bags, puffiness, loose skin, and tired-looking eyes.
Upper & Lower Eyelid Surgery
Upper eyelid surgery, also called upper blepharoplasty, focuses on excess skin and heaviness of the upper eyelids. This procedure may be recommended when loose skin makes the eyes appear hooded, tired, or less open.
Upper eyelid surgery may improve:
- Heavy or drooping upper eyelids
- Hooded eyelids
- Excess upper eyelid skin
- A tired or aged appearance
- Reduced definition in the upper eyelid crease
- Difficulty applying eye makeup due to excess skin
For some patients, heaviness around the upper eyes may be related to brow position as well as eyelid skin. In those cases, Dr. Yannis may discuss whether a brow lift, upper eyelid surgery, or a combination approach is best.
Lower eyelid surgery, also called lower blepharoplasty, focuses on under-eye aging, puffiness, and lower eyelid contour. This procedure may be recommended for patients bothered by under-eye bags, loose lower eyelid skin, or a tired appearance beneath the eyes.
Lower eyelid surgery may improve:
- Under-eye bags
- Puffiness beneath the eyes
- Loose or crepey lower eyelid skin
- Fine wrinkles around the lower eyelids
- Hollow or tired-looking lower eyes
- Aged lower eyelid contours
Depending on your anatomy, lower eyelid rejuvenation may also be discussed alongside facial fat transfer, laser resurfacing, or other treatments.
Reasons to Consider Eyelid Surgery
Many patients choose upper or lower eyelid surgery to address common signs of aging or changes in the eye area, including:
- Drooping or sagging upper eyelids that make the eyes appear tired or heavy
- Under-eye bags or puffiness that create a fatigued or aged appearance
- Excess skin or wrinkles around the eyes that affect the smoothness of the eyelid area
- Hooded eyelids that may partially obscure vision or alter facial balance
- Desire for a refreshed, youthful, and naturally alert appearance
Eyelid surgery can enhance not only your appearance but also your confidence, helping your eyes reflect the youthful energy and vibrance you feel.
What to expect during your Consultation?
After Eyelid Lift Surgery
Most patients are able to return to light, near-normal activities within a few days after eyelid surgery. As the incisions heal, it is important to avoid activities that may increase pressure around the eyes. Lifting, bending, and straining should typically be avoided for up to two weeks, while aerobic or heavy exercise should be avoided for at least three weeks after surgery.
Discomfort after upper or lower blepharoplasty is usually minimal and can often be managed with a mild pain reliever as recommended by your provider. Our team will give you detailed aftercare instructions, including how to clean the incisions and when to apply antibiotic eye ointment if needed. Some swelling and bruising are expected and can be improved with cold compresses and keeping the head elevated while resting.
As healing progresses, the upper and lower eyelid incisions usually blend naturally with the surrounding skin and become easier to camouflage. If sutures are used, they are typically removed about five days after surgery. Because sun exposure can darken healing scars, patients should protect the incision areas with sunscreen, sunglasses, and/or a hat while they heal.
Most patients can expect a noticeable improvement in the appearance of their eyes, with under-eye bags, bulges, and excess skin significantly reduced. Some tightness in the eyelids may occur and can last for several weeks or months as the tissues continue to settle. In some cases, removing excess upper eyelid skin may also improve peripheral vision.
Am I a Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?
You may be a candidate for eyelid surgery if you are bothered by loose eyelid skin, heaviness, puffiness, or under-eye bags and want a more refreshed appearance. Ideal candidates are generally healthy, have realistic expectations, and want improvement that still looks natural.
You may want to consider a blepharoplasty consultation if:
Your eyes look tired even when you feel rested
Your upper eyelids look heavy or hooded
You have under-eye bags or puffiness
Loose eyelid skin makes your eyes look smaller
Lower eyelid skin appears wrinkled or crepey
Makeup is harder to apply because of excess eyelid skin
You want surgical correction rather than temporary improvement
A private consultation is the best way to determine whether upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, or a combined approach is right for you.
What Can Blepharoplasty Improve?
Eyelid lift surgery can create a more rested, open, and refreshed appearance. It may help improve:
- Drooping upper lids
- Puffy lower lids
- Under-eye bags
- Excess eyelid skin
- Fine lines around the eyes
- Tired-looking eyes
- Aged or heavy eyelid contours
- Imbalance between the upper face and eyes
Upper and lower lid lifts may be performed alone or in combination with other facial rejuvenation treatments, including brow lift, facial fat transfer, or laser resurfacing.
