On PENS and Needles

What do you see when you look in the mirror? As I consider this question, it saddens me to think how most women (no matter how beautiful) only see flaws in the reflection staring back at them. “Where did that line come from? That wasn’t there before!” And when a tiny bump starts to surface, my mind jumps straight into “Why am I soooo broken out?!” mode.

For many years now, the size of my pores has been a huge concern to me. I’ve always had oily skin and growing up I was prone to bad breakouts. Now that I’ve worked in the aesthetics industry for over a year, my skin is clearer than it’s ever been. With that being said, when I look in the mirror I still see those little holes staring back at me throughout my upper cheek area and T-zone.

Recently our practice started offering a treatment created by Rejuvapen called microneedling. We were so excited to bring it on because it is a great overall remedy. It helps with pigment, scarring, and even helps to soften fine lines and wrinkles while giving your skin a boost in collagen levels. To my own advantage (drumroll please), it helps to diminish the appearance of pores!

I was a little uneasy going into the procedure because my pain tolerance levels are, let’s just say, not tremendously high. I was excited to learn that I was required to numb before being treated with Rejuvapen. Licensed Aesthetician Neko Shae made sure that numbing cream was applied liberally all over my face and I was instructed to sit tight for about 20 minutes before we could proceed.

Neko made sure I was perfectly comfortable before beginning my treatment. When she started, I could hardly even tell she was going hard after my areas of concern. The sensation I felt was like a tiny vibrating pin gliding all over my face. Truth be told, if the treatment had taken much longer, I may have even dozed off!

When Neko was done, she made sure my skin was covered with everything it needed to provide protection and to increase the treatment’s effectiveness. When I looked in the mirror, I saw some “pinkness” similar to that seen in a sunburn. By the next day, the color had essentially faded and I was ready to face the world with my resurfaced skin! I can’t wait to see what the next 3 weeks holds as my skin continues to improve as a result of using Rejuvapen. I would definitely recommend it to anyone with concerns similar to mine!

New to Center for Facial Rejuvenation…Microneedling (Rejuvapen)

Microneedling is a painless and simple way to treat scars, tighten skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, minimize pore size, and improve scars caused from acne. Microneedlinrejuvapen-beforeandafterg is a very versatile treatment with no down time, and results can be seen in as little as one week!
How microneedling works is a very natural form of skin renewal. It activates cell regeneration so your skin rebuilds collagen and elastin to repair the micro-perforations caused by the treatment. These invisible perforations in the skin cause the body to naturally repair itself, leaving younger, newer, healthier skin.

Q .What is microneedling?

A. Microneedling is a treatment that tightens skin, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, minimized appearance of scars caused from acne, and rejuvenates skin. It’s a perfect time to needle high potency growth factors into the skin!

Q. Who is a good candidate for microneedling?

A. Anyone can receive a microneedling treatment, whether you have dark skin or light skin. It is suitable for all skin types.

Q. How will my skin feel after a microneedling treatment, and how long is the down time?

Q. How long will my results last with microneedling?

A. Microneedling is a way to maintain healthy skin. Periodic treatments will be of great benefit to any skin type.

Q. How many treatments do I need?

A. Depending on your skin, 2-4 treatments may be required. Each treatment should be performed at least 4 weeks apart.

Q. How do I care for my skin after the microneedling treatment?

A. Wash with a gentle cleanser for three to five days after the microneedling treatment. Follow with a moisturizer and sunscreen. It is ideal to use the post-treatment care kit offered by your provider which will be the best products for your skin. Do not exercise and spend time in the sun. Your skin needs to be kept calm for optimal healing.

Your Personal Transformation

If you’re like me, both seasonal changes and time in general take a toll on your skin.  I have my fun in the sun in the spring and summer and frequently spend time outdoors in the cooler months as well.  In the most recent holiday season, I often fueled my body with the wrong kinds of foods which can lead to breakouts and skin sensitivities.  Overall, let’s just say that my skin was not in the best shape it’s ever been in.

Because I work in the most credible aesthetic environment in the industry, I am blessed to be exposed to the latest treatments and procedures designed to boost the vitality of my skin and restore its youthful glow.  I have seen the amazing results our clients have gotten as we have partnered with them using their customized continuum of care.  Last week I had a conversation with Licensed Aesthetician and Clinical Assistant Jen Cronin, who is an amazing asset to our team here at CFR.  She recommended that I try the VI Peel, which is a mid-dermal chemical peel designed to completely transform the skin.

The VI Peel represents the next generation of chemical exfoliants unlike any others you may have experienced in the past.  It is the perfect peel for all skin types.  Because it is formulated using scientifically proven and results oriented ingredients, the VI Peel does everything from improving the texture and clarity of your skin to softening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  It can even purify acneic skin conditions and stimulate collagen and elastin to produce firmer skin!

I started peeling on day 3 of the peel process, which lasts about a week.  Jen had sent me home with a post-peel kit that included a protectant that I applied liberally 2-4 times a day, and also a sunscreen with SPF 50.  After a few days, I was thrilled to see the new clarity and tone of my skin as it completely resurfaced.

I now recommend the VI Peel to anyone wanting to enhance their skin’s natural beauty and luminosity.  The winter months create the perfect season for chemical peels, as we are all trying to get in shape for summer both inside and out.  Call us today to schedule a complimentary complexion analysis and consultation to determine if the VI Peel is the perfect treatment for you.  Happy peeling!

VISIA Skin Analysis System

Have you heard about the VISIA Skin Analysis System?

Screen Shot 2014-08-25 at 12.18.48 PMUp to now, skin analysis has been more subjective than objective. How many time have you wondered “Does my skin really look better?” “Did I really get the results I wanted?”

Canfield’s VISIA Complexion Analysis System allows quantitative and qualitative analysis of eight different skin features to determine your overall skin condition and health. This provides a revolutionary method to guide the selection of skin care and treatment options.

At CFR we create a baseline of your skin and facial features, as we begin your facial rejuvenation with skincare, BOTOX®, Voluma, Skin Medica Chemical Peels, etc. you can see your amazing results. We document your progress with before and after pictures that are printed and added to your personal progress notebook.

This is especially rewarding when using the Latisse® Lash Lengthening Kit. The Visia has a tool for actually measuring the length and thickness of your lashes. We repeat the measurement in about 4 weeks and our clients are thrilled at the length and fullness they achieved.

What better way to see your results than with pictures and we GUARANTEE you are going to love your results!

Oh My Aging Hands!

Often our hands are the last area we focus on  yet the first  to show signs of  “wear and tear.” Sun damage, volume loss and thinning skin all play a part in the aging process of our hands. Because our hands are naturally thin, usually exposed to the elements and often overlooked with sunscreen it’s no wonder they can look “old before their time.”

When considering treatments for aging hands we can break them into two categories; resurface and refilling.

Resurfacing can be accomplished with topicals, chemical peels and lasers. Topicals like Obagi Clear which contains 4% hydroquinone (HQ) or Skin Medica Lytera which is HQ free are inexpensive ways to lighten dark spots and uneven skin tone. The good news is they really work!

Chemical peels are a second option for lightening sun-damaged skin of the hands. In addition, chemical peels like the Vi Peel or PCA peels can resurface the hands leaving a smoother texture.

Lastly, lasers are an option for hand resurfacing and rejuvenation as well.  A little more costly, high-tech options like Fraxel laser can restore the skin’s luminosity and suppleness with little to no downtime.

Since aging is really about volume loss and skin laxity, refilling the hands becomes the most effective treatment for beautiful looking hands. Radiesse® Hand Rejuvenation is quickly becoming one of the most sought after beauty treatments because women are discovering the hands should be addressed along with the face and neck.

Radiesse® is made of tiny calcium microspheres and has an impressive track record for re-volumizing the face. Plus, it has been shown to last up to 12-24 months. Hand rejuvenation is a  quick and virtualy painless procedure that takes about 15 minutes. The hands are numbed, the filler is injected and then gently massaged. Areas of depression, bony prominence and vein protrusion are softened giving the hands a fuller, more healthy look. The Radiesse® then stimulates your own body to produce both collagen and elastin contributing to the long lasting effect.
